American Express Small Business Saturday Participation Result

How did your participation in the Small Business Saturday go? Mine is great by the way and I would like to share it here! I had three of my American Express Cards registered for this promotion and on November 24th, Saturday I went out to dine with some friends at a local restaurant in the area.

Our bill for three amounted to $96.79, so I went ahead to ask our fine server to split the bill into three, charging a third on each card. Here is how it breaks down to, a triple dip:

Card
Amount Charged
Miles earned
Points earned
Credits earned
AX 1
$ 32.26
+/- 160 Alaska Airlines MileagePlan miles, MileagePlan Dining VIP member qualifier for 2013
32 American Express Membership rewards points earned
$ 25 Small Business Saturday program participation credit
AX 2

+/- 160 Alaska Airlines MileagePlan miles, MileagePlan Dining VIP member qualifier for 2013

$ 25 Small Business Saturday program participation credit

Total Spend before credits:$ 96.79

Post #12 June 18, 2012 - Revenue Managed

I thought I should share this video from American Airlines about inventory and revenue management. It explains why airfare changes so much - per American's own revenue management folks. I find this very insightful of how the process works, which should give you a fairly good idea what goes behind pricing. This is true to airfare and most other travel related products out there that is why I think this video provides a very good overview what factors are considered in your airfare and even your hotel rates. Play the video below...

Consider this as more of an educational tool to help you learn more about the travel industry. If you have any comment, please feel free to leave them below.

Checking-in June 7, 2012 - The best airline for...

This article is entertaining to note, some dose of fun heading into the week's end: The best airline for landing a sugardaddy? ABC Travel has this article about where to land a rich boyfriend, a sugar daddy and a high net-worth husband. According to their findings:

  • Airline with the best chance of meeting a millionaire: Delta Airlines
  • Airline flown by the most generous millionaires: American Airlines
  • Airline flown by the most wealthy millionaires: United Airlines
“If you want the best shot of landing a rich boyfriend, fly Delta Air Lines. If you want a generous sugar daddy, fly American Airlines. If you want a high net-worth husband, fly United Airlines,” said Brandon Wade, Founder & CEO of SeekingArrangement.com and SeekingMillionaire.com, in a press release. “And if you only have the appetite for wealthy men, stay away from peanut airlines such as Southwest, Frontier, Spirit or Allegiant.”

Checking-in June 4, 2012 - Airline News

JetBlue and Hawaiian to link their mileage programs beginning June 5!

This is great news since its announcement in January of this year. Starting June 5, members of JetBlue's TrueBlue program will be able to earn and redeem points for flights on Hawaiian Airlines, and members of Hawaiian's HawaiianMiles program will be able to earn and redeem miles for flights on JetBlue.
What is good about this is that it opens up new possibilities on miles/points earning and redemption. Hawaiian is very strong on the Hawaiian Islands and into the West Coast and the rest of the Pacific, while JetBlue is prominent in the Northeast and offers a gateway to the Caribbean. This opens a better earning and redemption opportunity as the two broaden their reach with this partnership - coast to coast.
TrueBlue members will earn one point for every two miles flown on Hawaiian for most fares while HawaiianMiles members will earn one mile per mile flown on most coach fares, but only 50 percent of flown miles on the cheapest coach tickets. Award redemption details haven't been made available yet. As the program integration is a work in progress, you'll have to book each airline's reservation center to register and/or book award flights.
More information will be posted here as soon as it is made available. In the meantime, please visit the respective airline programs for more details.

Checking in May 26, 2012 - ThePointsGuy's Beginner's Guide!

I have been missing in action for about a week - busy celebrating my birthday week with family and friends, plus the benefit of a more than full time job, plus school, plus an internship! This post is quite overdue in that I was planning to post it early in the week, but anyway, here it is...

This week's post is an offering for anyone wanting to get into the miles and points churning game. I have listed a quick sum up of what I have done myself, but here today I present to you a very comprehensive and very helpful guide to maximize your frequent flier miles, points, and credit card sign up bonuses.

I am a fan of thepointsguy and I check his blog almost everyday so I share with you his Beginner's Guide which you can access by clicking on the links on this post. Or through this here. This is what I usually refer to whenever I talk about miles and points with my friends and clients. There a lot of very good resources on the blogosphere - many of whom have been around the industry for so long. I will continue to share them with you as their respective approvals come along to share such information.

ThePointsGuy has been kind enough to allow me to link to his guide so please do not forget to thank him for sharing the information. Please leave a comment or a note or two, if you find it useful for you. Please also do not forget to post here if you have any comments or questions for me. Until the next one!

A Guide to Miles and Points

Mother's day is this May 13th, and what a really special day to celebrate isn't it? Anybody ever thought of making your mom happy and at the same time, earn some bit of a reward to count towards free travel? If you know what I mean, then you might have been doing this too, or maybe wondering what I am trying to say here and how this all connect?

I started this blog to be able to provide an avenue to reach out to you - family, friends, our dear travel clients, and anybody for that matter. And by reaching out here, I can share something of value to me and I believe will be of value to you also if you have not been bitten by the travel bug.

For more than two years now, I have been collecting miles and points. And I am loving how this is all going for me. Although I admit to not being able to travel so much as I would like (believe me, there are many places I have not gone to but I do plan to...), I have been trying to start somewhere and found a place to and how to do it - and inch ever so closely to free travel. I have followed a tad lot of experts on this subject (on blogs, forums and them all online!). I claim no expertise on this, however, I think it is beneficial for everyone reading this, to maybe learn a thing or two or get to know where to start.

Dreaming of that trip to Japan? How about to Europe? I am! So where can we start?

Checking-in May 3, 2012

Some opening thoughts:

travel [trav-uhl]
v. to go from one place to another, as by car, train, plane, or ship; take a trip; journey: to travel for pleasure.
v2. to travel, journey, or pass through or over, as a country or road
n. the act of traveling; journeying, especially to distant places: to travel to other planets.

For me, travel brings about a whole new perspective of the world. There is just so much out there that we cannot limit ourselves to the confines of our homes. That is why we have started this blog, that is to get people - family and friends, to travel and experience things that we do not normally experience on our day to day lives. Travel can mean a whole lot of things to every one, but I have this belief that the satisfaction it brings is universal that each and every one has something to relate to or even associate with.

Now what to expect on our blog?
